Mileage Reimbursement instead of a Company Car

The price of crude oil has recently breached the $75/barrel mark. Though the recession and the higher demand during the winter could be factored in, nevertheless there seems to be no downward spiral in tow. Using your own car or the one issued by your company will remain expensive. Are there any other alternatives, other than commuting? Commuting is preferable though if you live and work within the route of an LRT (light railway transit). However, if you have no access to LR, then driving is your only choice.

I am used to having a car provided by my company. However, lately, this benefit or privilege is taking a new form -mileage reimbursement as proffered by CRS (Corporate Reimbursement Services). So, instead of using the company provided car, I use my own and I get a reimbursement for each use. This is good to some extent. Because for one, fuel cost and insurance coverage fluctuate from time to time. In a reimbursement program, these variable costs or geographic cost variances are factored in and given weight. The downside though, your car maintenance is not covered.

Car maintenance, especially for older cars is costly. A reimbursement program will probably become more appealing for yuppies if the cost of maintenance is fully integrated. I really do not know how to proceed with this, but I think, it is worth looking into.
